WebHot composting can kill weed seeds in manure. The fixed nitrogen in composted manure is less likely to be washed out. Raw manure may lead to acid soil and an imbalance of nutrients, especially if repeatedly applied. So in theory, it’s usually better to use rotted manure. That doesn’t mean you always have to compost it.
