Webb19 juli 2010 · I thought I got all the anti-rust coating off the rotors but maybe I missed a spot. I sprayed both sides of all 4 rotors with brake cleaner on the car. It wasn't smoking after we got to the restaurant last night and the wheels were hot but a normal temperature. The 'hot brake" smell was gone too. I think everything is OK now. WebbIt turns to steam when you're using the brakes in stop and go traffic. I upgraded to DOT 4 brake fluid in my last Ford because it was doing this. It started when I was coming down the Smoky Mountains into Gatlinburg and the traffic was backed up. You'll need to figure out where the smoke is coming from to isolate the problem.

If thats the case, check the slider pins on the caliper, as they are probably not releasing the caliper properly. WebbIf you see this harness then look for a bleeder valve somewhere on the hydraulic box body and crack the bleeder valve just a bit. if you remain quiet you should hear the stuck brake pistons dis-engaging with momentary clicks. when you have done this re-tighten the bleeder valve when the noise stops.
