Even though the 19, and SS66 Are .357 magnum, a steady diet of magnums would accelerate wear.. The "k" frame was designed for the.38 spl. In the mid- 80's S&W released the "L" frame which is designed to hold up under a steady diet of .357 loads. WebAll the current 686's are round butt. They changed from square butt to round butt in the mid 1990's. However when it comes to grips they do make round to square conversion grips, I have some Hogue ones on my current 686.
